Toronto Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Matchup Versus defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros securing the championship in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their first Fall Classic after the 1993 season by beating the Mariners in the seventh game seven of the American League Championship Series.

Behind three runs to one, outfielder George Springer hit a three-run homer in the seventh, guiding the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a four games to three win in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the defending champions, who are the reigning title, in the anticipated Fall Classic.

"It's incredible for this squad, our city, the nation," Springer stated, a key player of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 title. "What an incredible feeling."

Springer has now connected for twenty-three October home runs, making him third on the list after Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not anyone else on planet Earth that I want up in that situation besides him with his playoff prowess," remarked manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, despite leading the early in the series, are still the sole team yet to make an appearance in a championship series.

Wilson said "there's no question that it hurts" following his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their work in the campaign.

"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we ended up on the wrong side of the series," he continued.

Toronto's team claimed the championship on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and will welcome the Dodgers in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
