Explosion Claims 3 Police Officers While Executing Eviction Action in the Verona Area
Three members of law enforcement perished and more than a dozen additional individuals got wounded in an apparently premeditated blast caused by gas at a farmhouse in the northern part of Italy.

The blast was triggered as police and firefighters approached the residence near the city of Verona to enforce an eviction order for a brother and sister trio in their late 50s and mid-60s.
Each of the three victims who died belonged to the Carabinieri force.
Arrests and Aftermath
A man and a woman were taken into custody at the scene and another man who fled subsequent to the blast was located shortly later. All three have been taken to the hospital.
The detonation could be heard as far as 3 miles distant and images from the scene revealed the structure turned into a heap of debris.
“This is a time for grieving,” commented Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, who noted that attempts had been made to remove the three siblings in the previous occasions.
Property Situation
The head of the region of Veneto, President Zaia, stated the farmhouse was subject to an removal notice due to financial obligations incurred by the three owners.
Negotiators had been assigned to engage the family members who had barricaded themselves into the property. When the police came just after 03:00 (01:00 GMT), officials suspect one of the siblings set off the explosion.
“As we went inside, we encountered a completely deranged action,” regional commander Commander Papagno told the media.
A gas canister had been ignited, and the explosion directly hit our personnel,” he explained.
Petrol bombs were also located at the property, the interior minister stated.
Casualties and Damage
Those injured by the blast comprised an additional 11 personnel of the military police as well as three members of Italy's state police and a fire services member.
Based on information from the prosecuting attorney, the farmhouse was in a poor condition and had was without power.
The official thought the blast had happened on a story above the access point and stated to reporters it was a “premeditated and voluntary homicide”. Moments before the explosion, he revealed officers had “noticed a hissing sound, likely the gas canisters being turned on”.
Local Response
“We all knew the situation was dire,” nearby inhabitants stated to reporters, noting that the three had earlier warned to “blow themselves up” rather than vacate the property.
“The explosion had left a ‘terrible, very painful and dramatic toll’.”
Minister of Defence Guido Crosetto joined other political leaders in honoring the three officers who had lost their lives in the line of duty.
