Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Debates Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes several notable adjustments:

  • Every squad has just eight real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions done by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
  • Only two maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Elements like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it gives more options for gamers seeking alternative methods to have fun with the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 players are mad.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," states a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and someone else details all the issues they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Concerns and Player Feedback

All that said, there are valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for other modes because of the large amount of options currently available. Similarly, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, a major grievances is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. So this new playlist seems like the player base meeting them halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user labels this addition as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?

Should the development team has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
